The Raging Bull Meets Mt Fuji.

The weekend of 29-31 August, 2014, saw the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo 2014 Asia series move from Sepang and Sentul to Japan’s hallowed Mt Fuji raceway. The circuit hosted Japan’s first ever F1 race in 1976 which also became the championship decider between Niki Lauder and James Hunt. The track has a fearsome reputation, with sharp turns arriving quickly upon drivers but has a huge 1.5km long straight, allowing drivers to wind out the howling cars to v-max.

The circuit will also see the first Super Trofeo race since the unveiling of Lamborghini’s monster eating Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo, the car that will be raced in all three series (Asia, America, Europe) in 2015. The 5.2L V10 powered demon has 612 horses tethered to the mid mounted engine bay, pushing that grunt down to the rear wheels, in a car that weighs a mere 1270 kg in racing trime, a quarter tonne or so lighter than the street car it’s based on. The series itself covers six events: Sepang in Malaysia, Sentul in Indonesia, Mt Fuji in Japan, China’s Zhuhai and Shanghai circuits in September and October before returing to Sepang, in November, for the series finale. Coming into the third round with points on the board is Max Wiser; paired with Jiang Xin at Sepang, the pair took out both races across the weekend and at Sentul, Wiser paired with Andrea Wiser to score the double again. Toshiyuki Ochiai ran with Manibu Orido for a fifth and third at Sepang but elected to do the drive himself at Sentul, finishing second in both races.
