Famous Names Combine: MG And Brock For The Win.

The MG brand and its iconic octagonal badge design have combined with one of Australian racing’s most famous names to win their class at the Jacuzzi Spas Australian Production Cars six hour enduro at Phillip Island. Racing in Class E, James Brock, son of the man known as “Peter Perfect”, his co-driver Elliot Barbour, and their MG6 PLUS, battled the track, the elements, and driver fatigue to take out their class and score a podium finish.

Thanks to the Brock Race Engineering team fettling the car throughout their inuagural season, and the joining of MG Motor Australia to form MG Motorsport Australia, mostly consistent running has seen the car perform past expectations. Brock himself said:”The MG6 Plus delivers a winning combination of dynamism, aero efficiency and performance to make it a highly competitive package from day one.”The series itself started back in May, with Victoria’s iconic Sandown Raceway hosting the first round of the Australian Production Car championship. The series went north to Queensland Raceway in July, before heading to Winton Raceway in the depths of winter. The championship then visited Sydney Motorsport Park in September before the final round over the first weekend of November, 2018.

Brock added:”It’s been a really great season, the Australian Production Car series has been super fun. It has really been an honour and a privilege to be able to represent a cool brand like MG and bring them back to motorsport. This is an absolutely awesome result for our first year out, thanks to MG Motor Australia for the support.”

Out of the box the car won all four races at Sandown, scoring the maximum 160 points on offer. That initial good form didn’t quite continue to Queensland Raceway, with the two races there seeing the MG6 PLUS down in the mid-pack. Winton in August saw a repeat before Sydney resulting in no points. It was a third place at Phillip Island that gave the team the points required to win their class championship.“We’re passionate about the racing heritage within MG’s brand DNA, and thank James Brock and the team for their commitment to MG Motorsport. This season has showcased the MG6 PLUS as delivering a winning combination of dynamism, reliability and performance to make it a highly competitive package – we’re delighted to end the season on such a high.” said MG Motor Australia’s Marketing Director, Danny Lenartic.
